FIT Toy Design Department

The Toy Design Department, the world's first accredited baccalaureate program in toy design, opened in 1989 after three years of intensive planning with F.I.T. and leading members of the industry. The establishment of a BFA program in toy design has provided a pool of highly skilled, socially responsible designers who respect children and delight in the creation of fun inspirational, safe toys. We are a think tank where new ideas are born and design research flourishes, on the cutting edge of the field and therefore always responsive to the needs of the marketplace.

Students work on hard and soft toys from concept to fabrication of prototypes in a 4,400 square foot workspace.
A Think Tank of Fun
Our Great Toy Philosophy "Toys have an enormous impact on children's lives." says Judy Ellis, founder and chairperson of the Toy Design Department. "Toy designers are presented every day with opportunities to create experiential and informational product. Truly great toys aspire to be both."
