All students complete a summer internship between the program's two academic years. They work on existing toy lines, brainstorm for new product concepts, engineer prototypes, develop marketing strategies and present their ideas to management--bringing their work within budget and production guidelines. Sponsoring companies include ALEX, Binney & Smith, BMT, Company 5, Disney, DSI Toys, Gund, Hasbro, Hedstrom, Kid Power, K’NEX, Leapfrog/Knowledge Kids Enterprises, Lego, Madam Alexander, Mattel/Fisher-Price Brands, Meritus, Nickelodeon, Oddzon, Tara Toys, Toy Biz, and Toys R Us.

Department Chairperson Judy Ellis personally matches students with sponsors based on company needs, corporate styles, job descriptions and individual students' design styles and interests.
Sponsoring companies are responsible for transportation, housing and a stipend. Internship interviews take place by appointment only in February during the American International Toy Fair in New York City. If you are interested in sponsoring a summer intern from FIT's Toy Design Department, please call Department Chairperson Judy Ellis at (212) 217-7133.
